While I was washing dishes...

...I had this thought:

Conservatives exist to keep society from progressing too fast,

Liberals exist to keep it from coming to a complete stop.

Well, the Pepper Purge is over. Back to normal. Did you realize that the main ingredient of Old Bay was pepper?

Pattygal, I told RJ about Hatch Chilis a long time ago. Am I ever jealous. Mixed up in a stew over freedom fries. Yum!

I'd swap the term "progressing" to "deteriorating". Change is not necessarily for the better, which is the stance of most conservatives.

Evolution is constant.

Evolve or die.

That's nature's law, neither conservative or liberal, simply efficient.

So much change, aka evolution, has been largely for the betterment of mankind. We all live longer today due to the medical and technological changes, aka advances, man has made and implemented.

As society changes, so must it's inhabitants. As it's inhabitants change, so must society.

To resist change is unnatural and futile.

The natural process will select out those organisms that resist change or cannot adapt to the inevitable, thereby making that organism extinct.

The thoughts you came up with, while washing dishes, are very worthy. Perhaps you'd like to come over here and wash the dishes and have more great thoughts?

"So much change, aka evolution, has been largely for the betterment of mankind. We all live longer today due to the medical and technological changes, aka advances..." A lot of folks would disagree with that statement. While some changes have been for the betterment of mankind, I'd say that most have not benefitted mankind, but rather have benefitted commercialism, materialism, greed, and capitalism. Case in point.... computer technology! Why are we still cutting trees to make paper when we have the option to not do so, why are we all still working 8+ hours per day - 5+ days a week, and only 2 weeks of vacation per year when we are so much more efficient in our work than prior to computerization? The answer, the promise and hype of computers was a lie... it was all about squeezing out more productivity from fewer employees all to make more money for business owners.

I also take issue with the just because we live longer we're better off. Again, it's naieve to think that these advances are "for the good of the people." I believe these "advances in medicine" are ultimately to keep cost lower for insurance companies and to keep you living longer so you can work longer. Case in point: As the medical advances enable us to live longer, Congress, in their infinate (LOL) wisdom, have raised the retirement age for all of it's citizens.

Why don't we use these "advances in society" to make our lives easier, so we don't have to work so hard, so that we can help out in our communities, and spend time with our families? The answer is......this doesn't benefit our government, our economy, or business owners.

Who is/are "our government, our economy, or business owners"?

Please tell a medical scientist that his/her work is not for the betterment of mankind, but for "the insurance companies". Pretty sure that medical scientist, that has spent $$$ to educate themselves and pursue his/her passion will look at you like you are from outerspace.

Perhaps a chat with the insurance agent might be a better approach.

We live in a capitalist society. Capitalism is based on constant growth. The entire premise of this type of system, albeit quite unnatural, is more more more. Capitalism appeals to greed, encourages greed, flourishes as greed feeds it and vice versa.

It is naieve, or rather naive, to not realize that you as an individual have complete freedom of choice in this country to do as you please. The one issue that stops a lot of people from doing so is 'sacrifice'.

What are you willing to sacrifice in order to NOT work an 8-hr day, 5 days a week, and enjoy as much time off as you want?
Is it possible that you live in the country on a fat piece of land far from where you work, where you must pump your SUV full of petro to get to and fro?
Doesn't the very system you dislike provide you with such an opportunity?

There are plenty of part-time jobs available, plenty of cheap places to live, but you will have to sacrifice.

Before you can bitch about the system, ask yourself if you drive a $30,000 SUV or live in a $200,000 dollar home or both and then some.

The more you have, the more it must be maintained, the more it will cost to maintain, the more time it will take to maintain.

Unless you pay somebody else to do it.

Then you must work more or find a way to increase your capital in order to pay that person to do the things that you should/could do if you could make that sacrifice.

There is absolutely nothing stopping a person from employing any type of technology or benefit of progress except that persons own ideals.

Ever hear "less is more"?
