I guess it's just such a little-old-lady activity . . . but I like it nonetheless. For what it's worth, I also bake and knit and sew, so I guess I'm just a little old lady at heart.
Wrestling the tiller, cultivating, hoeing, seeding, weeding, building a fence around it all to keep the squirrels-racoons-cats-alley urchins-starlings-etc. out, and then harvesting, maintenance, continually weeding; and this summer having to water constantly, all in 90+ Virginia heat would kill most little old ladies!!
For me, one of the joys of a vegetable garden is giving my friends, family and neighbors a basket of freshly picked stuff every couple of days.
You ain't old Vestal, you're talented and skilled in things that a lot of young people are not, and that's gonna pay off for you down the road.
That pepper looks pretty good. Last year, a friend gave me lots of peppers. I put them in the freezer, and dried some. I still have plenty. Luckily, she didn't grow as many this year. She said she was holding off as her freezer still has a lot.

Very nice.
I've got some heirloom tomatoes coming up in my rented garden space at my parents' house. Small yellow sweets and orange pear-shaped ones.
Gardening makes me feel old, but I like it anyway.
VV,
Why on earth does gardening make you feel old?

Who happens to listen to The White Stripes.
Uh...I'm old, but not a lady!

To be clear to all: that pepper is not from my garden, I cannot take credit for it.
I will however, be posting pics of both jalapeño's and thai's that are in my garden as they turn red.
Right now, all of mine are still green.
Dr. C does his Friday Crab Bloggin' thing, and I borrowed the idea from that. It's not my pepper and I don't want to be accused of pepper plagerizing.
Sorry if I misled anyone.
Plagerizing peppers is not possible; if so, it would be in the same class as Intelligent Design, so its not possible.
Peppers are sacred and should be available to all. Very democratic, Peppers.
